Schiebel has been awarded the maritime surveillance service provision contract by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
The company’s CAMCOPTER S-100 system will now provide simultaneous maritime surveillance services at several sites across Europe for EMSA.
Schiebel said the S-100 was selected “based on its impressive service record in the maritime domain, as well as its proven maritime surveillance expertise. Payload capabilities and vertical take-off and landing abilities from shore and from vessels were further qualifying factors.
The S-100 vehicles to be operated for EMSA will be equipped with an L3 Wescam MX-10 electro-optical/infrared camera gimbal and an Overwatch Imaging PT-8 Oceanwatch payload, as well as an automatic identification system receiver.
Schiebel Chief Technical Officer Chris Day commented: “This combination of the MX-10 and Oceanwatch payloads is truly revolutionary. It offers game-changing quality and efficiency for wide-area maritime surveillance.”
