Airbus has today (July 19, 2018) conducted the first flight of the initial BelugaXL transporter.

The aircraft conducted a four-hour, 11-minute flight from Toulouse over southwest France.

The jet will now undergo 600 hours of certification testing before its scheduled entry to service in mid-2019.

Five BelugaXLs will replace the current five-strong BelugaST aircraft as Airbus’ in-house transport fleet from 2019 to 2023, carrying large aircraft components between 11 destinations in Airbus’ production network across Europe.
