BAE Systems is working on a solar-powered unmanned high altitude long endurance system. The PHASA-35, under development in conjunction with Hampshire-based technology company Prismatic, are preparing the first aircraft to be ready for flight tests in 2019.
The system will be capable of flying for up to 12 months without landing thanks to solar cells and a highly-efficient wing.
A quarter scale model of the aircraft named PHASE-8 completed a successful maiden flight in 2017. The PHASA-35 concept will have a 114ft (35m) wingspan and weigh 330lb (150kg).
