Airbus Helicopters has received European Aviation Safety Agency certification for the Rig’N Fly system for its H175.

Rig’N Fly stands for (RigIntegrated GPS approaches with eNhanced Flyability and safety. The system is designed to allow the H175 to conduct fully automatic approaches to oil and gas platforms and provide enhanced flight precision and situational awareness.

The Rig’N Fly automatic approach mode uses a combination of sensors including GPS, barometric altimeter, radar altimeter and weather radar data.

It can be coupled to the helicopter’s automatic flight control system and includes the flexibility to take environmental elements into account. It enables a crew to fly offset approaches, which can be tailored according to weather conditions and the rig environment, and to fly the safest standardised approach which places the landing deck in the most visible position for the crew.

Rig’N Fly is designed to reduce crew workload and improve situational awareness.
